Teen and Adult Karate

The Teen/Adult Class is designed for ages 14 & up providing a program to increase strength, flexibility, stamina, and concentration. The program helps a student to lose weight, reduce stress, and develop coordination and confidence. It provides a student to learn practical self-defense and Life Skills. Our Teen & Adult Karate program is designed to teach our students a high level of self-defense with many other benefits. Our students soon discover that Shin Ri Tan Kyu is more than just punches and kicks!

Our program will help you stay in shape. You will gain flexibility through our stretching techniques which will decrease your chances of injury in sports and everyday life. You will build strength and tone your body with our dynamic, isometric, and repetitive exercises. You will gain confidence and self-esteem by improving your physical fitness, body composition, skill level and self-defense skills. You will enjoy the workout as well as the friendships that come along with exercising and training with people that have similar goals. People that train together and support one another end up building friendships that last a lifetime.

Martial Arts are a great way to get in shape
Martial arts is like an exercise program with a bonus! You learn to defend yourself while you get in shape. Our adult students really appreciate the difference between martial arts training and standard exercise programs.

Our adult martial arts classes relieve stress
Martial arts classes are well known for their stress relieving benefits. The emphasis on mind-body training goes far beyond the benefits of standard health club type exercise programs.

Our classroom practice sessions give you confidence
The confidence building part of our program is what students appreciate the most. Nothing can take the place of the security in knowing that you can defend yourself, if you have to.

At our school, everything we teach is reality based. Our instructors work very hard to insure that our students learn to defend themselves with practical self-defense techniques.

Our program is a lot of fun
The reason our program is so successful is because we make the classes fun and exciting. We learned a long time ago that when our students are having fun they learn much faster.

Cardio-Kickboxing at Club Fit
Cardio-kickboxing (a.k.a. aerobic boxing, Aerobox, Boxercise, Boxaerobics and others) is a high-impact cardiovascular workout that blends elements of boxing, martial arts and traditional aerobics into a 30- to 60-minute exercise routine. Classes vary but generally feature a variety of punches, kicks, knee strikes and other self-defense moves interspersed with a bouncing "base" move. Some cardio-kickboxing classes spend at least part of the time kicking and punching weighted, padded targets or engaging in actual sparring. The class may also incorporate traditional exercises, such as jumping jacks, abdominal crunches, leg lifts and push-ups to create a total body workout.
Mr. Suggs teaches cardio-kickboxing every Monday and Wednesday at Club Fit, located in Briarcliff Manor, New York.  Note - Requires Club Fit membership.

Corporate Personal Safety Seminars

Americans are becoming increasingly concerned about their personal safety and the safety of their loved ones.  With some basic knowledge of self-defense skills along with quality information about what attackers look for in a victim, you'll feel more confident no matter what your situation!

Our corporate seminar is designed to offer basic self-defense information to groups of co-workers either in our facility or yours.  Attendees will focus on using visual, physical and mental self-defense.  This seminar will also focus on how to NOT become a victim.  Learn quality information about what characteristics attackers look for in a potential victim and how to change your behavior.  Seminars are limited to 30 people with a student to instructor ratio of 10 to 1.

Session Details:
- Seminars are two (2) hours in length with a 10 minutes break halfway through.
- Seminars may be taught either in our facility or yours.  If at your facility, carpet or workout mats are ideal.  However, non-slippery tile or wood floors are fine.
- Seminars are limited to 30 people.
- The cost per person is $25.00.  Volume discounts do apply when 30 people sign up.  Price is reduced from $25.00 to $18.00 per person.
- Customized seminar lengths are possible.
- Larger groups are possible with the addition of assistant instructors.
- The seminars will be lead by Renshi Suggs.

Private Lessons
Private lessons are focused, personally tuned instructive sessions  available with Renshi Kevin or any Shin Ri Tan Kyu Staff Instructor approved by Renshi Kevin. Private lessons must be purchased in a block minimum of 3. These focused personal lessons are not held during regularly scheduled class times. All private lessons will be held at either the dojo or at a mutually convenient location.

CDT Training
CDT is the most effective non-deadly force system in the world. In thousands of street-tested circumstances where justifiable force was needed, CDT has been effectively employed without a single permanent injury to any person. CDT has adapted effective yet simple techniques to create practical personal protection programs and womens self defense programs. CDT also developed a child safety program called Know and Go™ that trains kids on how and when to run to safety.

These programs will teach you what to do about domestic violence and how to avoid domestic violence. Now you can have the opportunity to learn women's self defense and child safety through CDT, the most effective non deadly force system in the world! Shin Ri Tan Kyu offers certified courses in the following 3 areas:

Personal Protection

Tens of thousands of professionals from all walks of life such as law enforcement, security personnel, military, doctors, nurses, teachers, lawyers, airline personnel and everyday families have successfully completed CDT Certification Courses throughout the world. Now its your turn to take advantage of these same opportunities. 

Family Protection

This innovative program, the first of its kind to ever be developed, focuses on training the entire family as a unit. Each family member is taught a different responsibility from distraction techniques or cover and evacuation procedures, when and if the need arises. Statistics prove that many acts of violence happen around children and CDT takes the approach that children are our most precious gifts of all and this type of training emphasizes their safety at all costs via easy to learn sound, verbal, and movement drills.

Law Enforcement

When a law enforcement officer needs to utilize less-than-deadly force by means of empty handed tactics, that person must be able to do so quickly, skillfully, and with reduced risk and liability to all concerned. The longer the officer has to be engaged with a subject, the greater risk of losing the altercation or suffering injury or even death. Moreover, depending upon a subjects actions and the situation at hand, the officer may have to increase or decrease the amount of force employed. CDT techniques allow for necessary escalation and de-escalation of lawful force without causing serious or deadly injury. No other non-lethal training system can make this claim.
